Dear MFAW I have a son that is now serving in Iraq, which is his second tour.
His father was also a serving soldier but now retired.
Our eldest son also joined up but after 3 years of service was in a
R.T.A. while in convoy on exercise, he was very badly injured and was
medicalled out.
We as a family feel very strongly as to what is going on now.
With regards to our troops in Iraq, the Labour Government or should I
say Tony Blair has no regard for these men and women.
Had he, he'd never have put them there in the first place, for
reasons we all now know.
Regarding each and every life taken during this war many more die
silently grieving for the loss of that loved one - the spouse, child,
parents, grandparents, extended family, not forgetting friends.
Should that soldier have been a married person living in married
quarters, it is only 90 days after their death that their still
grieving family is expected to vacate their home.
If we all stop for a few moments and ask ourselves what would we do
if we were one of those men or women serving on the front line or
about to.
Would we not be torn as to what to do, as it's not a war about
protecting our country and loved ones? Would we not be apprehensive
at the thought of the pressure we'd be putting upon our families
while we are gone? And, should we become one of the fallen the pain
and suffering we will have inflicted on them?
Many of them will have served on the front lines before, the memories
of such atrocities they witnessed, the loss of comrades. Imagine the
kind of mental anguish they must be going through, is it any wonder
that they go Awol?
They are human beings not machines lets remember. Yes, they chose to
join the forces and knew the risks involved should war break out. But
they are not laying down their life at this stage for Queen and
Country but to spare the face of the Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Which leads me to my next point ( attempt to implement a section 8 )
Why has the need arisen for such a section??? Why, because Government
and the M.O.D. say the numbers have increased greatly regarding
soldiers going Awol.
Well as I stated earlier, is it not surprising?
You will note there is no section passed that should any member of
Government not obey the rules and do as is expected of them, that
they will face dishonour, lose all grace and favour - along with
their very large pensions I might add.
Yet the government want to see life in prison for any soldier daring
to go Awol.
Ask yourselves do the Mandlesons, Blunketts, and Prescotts deserve
the grace and favours still lavished upon them?????
The families of our war dead or the casualties we bring home can
expect no such luxuries.
This from a man that calls himself a honest, trustworthy, and caring
Prime Minister.
Mrs M Richardson.
